Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his future following another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the club's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at their home ground.
āI feel secure, I'm fine, I have got a lot of backing from management,ā the coach stated.
āIt would be great to change things and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.ā
He added, āI accept my situation. This isn't the first time Iāve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.ā
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot explained:
āWe communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they donāt call me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.ā
He added, āIn the normal discussions I perceive the confidence. However I havenāt spoken to them after this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.ā
Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
āI donāt have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,ā the midfielder stated.
āIt's simply unacceptable. I donāt even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I just donāt have the phrases.ā
He added, āItās hard because Iām playing for the club I love. Iām a fan, and Iāve seen this club since I was young.ā
āIn a long, long time, I havenāt experienced a Reds side enduring a phase like this with performances this poor.ā
He finished, āBut we still have that badge on our shirts. And until it is gone, weāre always going to compete.ā
āWeāre going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.ā
āAt this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.ā
