Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers launched a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features several notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes just eight real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for players seeking different methods to have fun with the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Community Responses: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and another details everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Feedback
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
