Former Physician Charged with Sexual Assault Charges Involving 38 Patients

Legal authorities have stated that a ex- physician now faces charges for performing sexual assaults involving 38 individuals who were patients.

Details of the Serious Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of sexual offences – some of which involve acts against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.

One deputy chief prosecutor stated, “Legal teams have worked at length to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

Scope of the Investigation

These allegations come after what police described as a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

Prosecutors said the 45 sexual offences comprise:

  • Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
  • Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
