Iran Claims Strike on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any impact is not yet known and the American officials has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have shot down incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with notable success and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted debris landed in a populated district in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
