Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
