New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was ā€œin good spiritsā€ during their latest talk.

ā€œWhat reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,ā€ Glenn commented. ā€œHis family, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.ā€

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he has been listed as critical but stable.

ā€œDon’t know just yet,ā€ Glenn remarked. ā€œHowever, I can share, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and he’s talking that way.ā€

NYPD released video stills earlier this week of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and police mentioned it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt were reported.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday about halfway between MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was transported to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind ā€œa great dealā€ since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a baby.

ā€œWhat immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,ā€ Glenn remarked. ā€œMy mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
ā€œThere’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.ā€

Boyd was inactive this season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with a shoulder issue that needed an operation.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in spring and was anticipated to become an important component of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

ā€œHe has stayed engaged with the team,ā€ Glenn stated. ā€œIn fact, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.ā€

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He later played for Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with New York in March.
