An extensive extended cruise around the Australian Coast has been cancelled days after the fatal incident of an elderly lady who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been trekking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but broke off from the excursion for a rest. The ship departed without her and returned several hours later after the ship staff realised the lady was unaccounted for.

A major rescue mission found her person the next day.

Authorities are examining the incident, together with investigators and the state coroner.

The CEO of the cruise operator announced that travelers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were told that the remainder of the cruise had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and prior technical problems".

Through an announcement, he further stated that travelers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the travel back of the passengers via chartered flights".

Officials also issued an revised statement, and said they had "provided a order to the Master" preventing any further travelers from entering the vessel.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the ship in the port city upon its coming back.

The ship first departed Cairns on October 24th, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the time of the elderly woman's death. The remote island was the first stop on the itinerary.

Travelers on the vessel - who typically pay substantial amounts of money to take part in the expedition - were ferried there for a shore visit with the possibility of hiking or snorkelling.

The offspring of the victim said that her family was "shocked and distressed that the liner left the island after an planned outing without my parent".

Through her comments, she portrayed her parent as an "vigorous 80-year-old" who was a member of a hiking group.

"Based on limited details we have been told, it seems that there was a failure of care and common sense," she mentioned.

She continued that she hoped the inquiry would be able to determine what "the company should have undertaken that might have protected Mum's life".

"We understand from the investigators that it was a very hot period, and mother became unwell on the mountain ascent," she revealed.

"They requested her to head down, unescorted. Then the ship sailed away, reportedly without doing a roll call.

"At a certain moment in that chain of events, or soon after, mum passed away, alone."

Company Position

Through an announcement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the company was "working closely with investigators to assist their examination".

He mentioned that the firm was "extremely apologetic that this has occurred" and had provided its total backing to the family.

The vessel accommodates up to a hundred twenty travelers with nearly fifty personnel, according to company data. It was specially constructed to enter distant areas of the Australian coast and is outfitted with "tenders" - minor craft used to transport individuals on day excursions.

Occurrences of this nature are infrequent, and passenger vessels have procedures to track which passengers are getting on or disembarking, according to travel authorities.
